First Steps

At this point, we have introduced the resources and concepts necessary for adding Mixpanel code into your application.  This lesson will give an overview of the process to follow as you set up your Mixpanel tracking.

Javascript Implementation Example

The following text is meant to give high-level descriptions of the implementation process. It does not include examples of adding Mixpanel code to an application.  If you want to see that process in action for further clarification check out this video.  It will guide you through the implementation of Mixpanel with the Javascript library in a hypothetical web application.

Install the Mixpanel Library

This process begins with installing and/or initializing the Mixpanel SDK and inserting the token of the project you would like to send data to as outlined in the developer documentation.  You can find your project token in Mixpanel using the steps outlined in this article.

If you find that you are having trouble accessing project settings it could be a permissions issue.  Check with your Mixpanel administrator and see if you can be given project administrator rights or have the token for the project sent to you.

Pro-tip: Double-check the token

Mixpanel often recommends separate projects for development and production data.  Make sure you are using the correct token while you are testing to keep your production data clean.

ACTION ITEM: Locate your project token and initialize the Mixpanel SDK.
